Why do I need to carry it out?

Fire alarm systems save lives and it is crucial that they are tested properly and regularly by a company that is suitably qualified to do so.
BS 58839 states that fire alarm systems must be subject to regular maintenance by a competent person. This should be carried out at a minimum interval of six months to make sure your alarm system is always fit for purpose.
A weekly test should also be carried out involving activation of a ‘break glass’ unit. This is best conducted by a responsible person within the building and we can provide all the assistance and advice you need to ensure that this process is carried out accurately. The results of these tests must be recorded in the fire alarm logbook , and should you not already have one of these, IQ Electrical can supply you with one.
